Saving the Country

Can there be a unanimous agreement?

The day had arrived. The members of both groups had selected their spokesperson to present their analysis and to lead in the conversion of the other group to their interpretation. The Blue media, including social media, had been following the actions of both groups, hailing the work of The Blue Group as thoughtful and provoking, and the only logical process to proceed forward. They relentlessly cast The Red Group as nothing but liars, altering the facts at hand, and presenting concepts that would destroy the country instead of strengthening it. And, yes, The Red media, including social media, had been following the actions of both groups, hailing the work of The Red Group as thoughtful and provoking, and the only logical process to proceed forward. They relentlessly cast The Blue Group as nothing but liars, altering the facts at hand, and presenting concepts that would destroy the country instead of strengthening it.

The general population had already made their minds up before this combined meeting had even been called. There were shouts of "Why not use common sense? The answer is obvious! Anyone who believes the other group is an idiot!" The uproar was equally intense from supporters of both groups. The only thing the general population now had in common was their distrust of anyone that supported the 'other' group.

The meeting did proceed. Each group presented their interpretation of 'The Shadow' and members of each group shouted down the other group any time someone tried to address the joint group. The fringe members caught the most wrath, not only from the opposing group but also their own group. It was a prime example of group (or party) above all else.

Was either group successful in attaining the prescribed remedy "to determine what creates this shadow, the underlying meaning of this object, and to come to a unanimous agreement on both the object and the underlying message, not only within your group, but all groups within the government"?

Sadly, no.
