Sphere Theory

What does it mean?

The Red Group reconvened to discuss what it meant to be associated with a sphere and it's shadow of a circle.

The discussion started with a listing of the physical attributes of a circle and a sphere. It went something like this:

The general discussion followed much of the agenda The Red Group had established over the course of the last few election cycles. The sphere made most of the members think immediately of the Earth. Correlations were made to interchanging the use of the sphere and the circle to represent our existence: the universe as a sphere, the galaxies as circles within the sphere, the planets as spheres within those circles, the countries represented as circles on the sphere, and each of us as a sphere on the circle. Someone suggested that the underlying message should be one of "Think globally while acting locally". Another suggested that the sphere reminded them of a rubber ball, that it is resilient, flexible, and can conform to the subtle variations in the objects it comes in contact with.

Someone else spoke up and suggested the meaning could also be literal, to remember the sphere of influence that the country has on all of the other countries. That we could not afford to be isolationists, as we influence others just as they influence us.

As is the case with most groups, no matter the size or the focus of that group, there will always be a small number of members 'on the fringe' and The Red Group was no exception. One of these fringe members addressed the group and reminded them of a key phrase within the directive that started this discussion; that we are to "determine what created the shadow. Clearly, our focus should not be on the sphere but on the light, for without the light, there would be no shadow." While the gesture was received with dignity and understanding, it was decided to dismiss that avenue and concentrate on the sphere, itself.

After much discussion over several days, The Red Group came to a general concensus of the meaning of the object that generated the shadow, The Sphere. These ideas would be presented to The Blue Group so that everyone could agree that these were the cornerstones of the government moving forward:

  1. We must regard the impact on our planet with all decisions that are made.
  2. Recognize that our actions have an impact on every other country.
  3. We should remain mindful of the activities in other countries as those impact us.
  4. Think globally before we act locally.
